There are many spas which offer special packages for pregnant women that help them to relax and feel refreshed.
However, there are spa treatments which are safe for pregnant women and some are absolutely unsafe during pregnancy.
The spa treatments which are absolutely safe during pregnancy are –
Facial – During pregnancy, skin undergoes many changes and hence facial is a wonderful treatment. This is the period when many hormonal changes take place which causes acne breakouts or hyper pigmentation. Hence, facial is highly recommended.
Manicures and Pedicures – These two treatments help the hands and feet of the expecting mom to relax while her body is going through so much. Many women suffer from swollen feet and hands during pregnancy and these treatments avoid the risk of infection.
Massage – This is the most enjoyable spa treatment for pregnant women as it helps to relieve stress, eases joints and muscle pain and helps circulation. Massage should be done with essential oils.
The spa treatments which are not recommended for pregnant women are –
One should avoid tanning bed during pregnancy, as the heat from the tanning beds can prove to be dangerous for the upcoming baby. Similarly, massage with strong smelling oils should be avoided. Strong smelling oils causes vomiting and morning sickness during pregnancy. Hair dye should also be avoided as it is observed that some amount of hair color is absorbed by the body, which contains synthetic chemicals and is harmful to the fetus.
